Sam Appleton and Tamara Jewett won pro titles in event record times at the Ironman 70.3 Santa Cruz triathlon on Sunday.

Appleton, a Sydney, Australia, native who lives and trains in Boulder, Colorado, took first in 3:41:04. He was third in the a 1.2-mile swim (22:45), second in the 56-mile bike (2:01:39), and fourth in the run (1:12:23).

The swim proved costly in Trevor Foley’s bid to win the title. Foley, a Brooksville, Florida, native who lives and trains in Boulder, Colorado, took second in 3:42:52 finishing 19th in the swim (24:12), fourth in the bike (2:02:32), and second in the 13.1-mile run (1:11:31).

Ben Kanute, of Geneva, Illinois, tooked third overall in 3:43:06. He completed the swim in 22:45, bike in 2:01:48, and run in 1:14:26.
