An Edinburgh teenager was found carrying a knife and drugs in a busy retail park.

David Gelwak was discovered by police at a Tyneside shopping area. There was masking tape around the blade while he was searched at Kingston Retail Park.

A court heard officers initially suspected the 18-year-old was taking part in a drug deal when they stopped him on September 2 last week. Instead, he was found to be carrying the knife and a packet of Pregabalin tablets, reports Chronicle Live .

Gelwak, of Castlebrae Avenue, Craigmillar, appeared in the dock at Newcastle Magistrates' Court 24 hours later, where he pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article and possession of a class C drug.
