NEW BEDFORD — Starting in early 2026, New Bedford High parents may be less likely to get unexpected calls to pick up sick students. At least that's one of the benefits officials predict that a new school-based health center at NBHS will bring when it opens this winter.

"We're talking about the first of the year," said New Bedford Community Health Center President and CEO Cheryl Bartlett of an opening date for the facility, which will be staffed and operated by her organization based downtown. "We're really excited about this."
