On Saturday, Aug. 9, McDowell 4-H club members joined more than 200 youth from all over western North Carolina to compete in this year’s West Region 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament at Polk County Gun Club.
McDowell 4-Hers competed in shotgun, rifle, archery and smallbore pistol. Several youth from McDowell qualified for the state 4-H Tournament to be held at Millstone 4-H Camp on Saturday, Oct. 4, according to a news release.

Shotgun second place team — Liam Thomas, Hunter Jimeson, Maverick Greene.
Open sight rifle second place team — Hunter Jimerson, Maverick Greene, Liam Thomas.
Qualifying for state tournament — Hunter Jimeson (archery), Liam Thomas (archery), Caitlyn Waldroup (scoped rifle), Kaylee Ray (scoped rifle), Liam Thomas (scoped rifle), Curtis Piveronas
