GORHAM, Maine — A nonprofit that provides emotional support and assistance to survivors of traumatic events is looking for more volunteers.

The Trauma Intervention Program of Greater Portland, or TIP , is holding training this week to get more people equipped to respond to tragedy.

TIP volunteers are called in by police, firefighters, or hospitals to emotionally help people after first responders physically help people.

Volunteers step in to comfort survivors, impacted family members, and witnesses of incidents such as crashes, overdoses, assaults, and unexpected deaths. They talk with them, give them things like tissues and water, and connect them with resources.
