If you didn't catch the " blood moon " Sept. 7-8 from your backyard in the United States, there's a perfectly good explanation — it wasn't visible in North America.

The moon took on a striking red color for millions of people in Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia thanks to a total lunar eclipse .

Fortunately, there's plenty of photos and video of what people saw, which will give U.S. citizens a preview of what's to come when the next "blood moon" glides over America.
