Fans had the opportunity to vote in 21 categories, with the chance to cast up to 10 votes per day while the voting period was open.

VMA and Grammy winner and five-time Grammy host LL Cool J hosted the ceremony, and Busta Rhymes was honored with the first-ever Rock The Bells Visionary Award, while Mariah Carey earned the Video Vanguard Award.

The show also featured a tribute to , who in July at age 76.
