Washington — Chief Justice John Roberts on Tuesday temporarily halted a lower court order that blocked the Trump administration from freezing more than $4 billion in foreign-aid funding.
The chief justice issued an administrative stay, which gives the Supreme Court more time to fully consider the government's request for emergency relief. The Justice Department asked the Supreme Court on Monday to allow the administration to freeze the funding for foreign aid projects.
The request for the Supreme Court's intervention comes in a clash over the president's refusal to spend money allocated by Congress for foreign assistance programs.
