BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- Did you miss Sunday night's full moon? Just before sunset yesterday, many people in Baton Rouge witnessed the spectacular sight. Unfortunately, the moon dipped below the horizon shortly thereafter, blocking our view.

The September full moon is famously known as the Corn Moon. The name was given to the first full moon in September because this was a time when many cultures in the northern United States harvested their corn. It's often seen as a final goodbye to the summer season and a welcome to autumn.

Now, this full moon is not to be confused with the Harvest Moon, the name given to the first full moon after the Autumnal Equinox. The Corn Moon is only given its name when the Harvest Moon falls in October.
