DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) -- To further cement the legacy of Versailles Fire and EMS Chief Brian Pearson, the acting mayor of Greenville is ordering that flags be lowered.

In a statement, Doug Schmidt said that all U.S. and state flags should be flown at half-staff on public grounds and buildings throughout the city of Greenville and throughout the village of Versailles until sunrise on Sept. 10.

"As a sign of respect and acknowledgement of of the sacrifices and dedication to service exhibited by Chief Pearson, I encourage other properties within the City of Greenville to do the same," Schmidt said.

Pearson died at Wayne HealthCare on Aug. 31. He was 49-years-old.

His funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at Oakland Church of the Brethren, in Bradford.
