Police are looking for the person responsible for killing a deer with an arrow after the carcass was found on an athletic field near a public preschool school in Hudson County.

Officers found the mature buck dead on a softball field about 8 a.m. Sunday on Millridge Road in Secaucus, police said in a statement.

The field is within walking distance of Millridge School, an early learning center that serves pre-K students in the Secaucus Public School District .

The police department’s Humane Law Enforcement division determined the buck was shot by an arrow at another location and died on the athletic field, police said.

Local laws prohibit hunting within town limits, but not in the surrounding waterways, police said.

In addition, bows and arrows are not permitted in the town’s parks
