Michigan associate head coach Biff Poggi watches a play during the first half of the spring game at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday, April 19, 2025.

The Michigan Wolverines will be without head football coach Sherrone Moore for the next two games, and on Monday, they named his replacement.

Former Charlotte head coach and current Wolverines associate head coach Biff Poggi will roam the sidelines as the main guy for the next two weeks as Michigan plays at home against Central Michigan and then on the road against Nebraska.

Moore will be serving a self-imposed two-game suspension for his involvement in the Connor Stallions sign-stealing scandal two years ago. The Wolverines chose to let him coach the first two games, but he will now sit out the next two.

Moore will not be able to coach during the week, which differs from the suspensions Jim Harbaugh faced when he was out in 2024.

Poggi has experience as a college head coach, but it did not go well as he was fired less than two years into his stint as the head guy at Charlotte. He went just 6-16 in his time at Charlotte before being let go.

Poggi was hired in February to be the associate head coach, a spot he held back in 2021 and 2022 with Harbaugh. Poggi was also an analyst with the Wolverines in 2016.

Poggi is looking to help the Wolverines bounce back from a 24-13 loss to Oklahoma last Saturday. He will also look to lead them to a must-win Big Ten opener against the Cornhuskers in two weeks.
