A dozen attorneys who collectively represent as many as 100 clergy sex abuse survivors in the Archdiocese of New Orleans bankruptcy have thrown their support behind a proposed settlement plan , signaling the long-running case could come to a close by the end of this year.
According to multiple sources familiar with the case, court documents are expected to be filed late Monday outlining the terms of the deal between the survivors group, the archdiocese and the official court-appointed committee that represents the 650 or so claimants in the case.
The plan would pay $230 million over several years into a settlement trust for survivors and also entitle survivors to sue the church’s main insurer, Traveler’s, for additional compensation.
