Florida Parents Take On School Over Child’s Gender Transition
A Florida couple, January and Jeffrey Littlejohn, is appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court after lower courts sided with the school system in a case involving their child’s gender identity.
The parents allege that Deerlake Middle School helped their 13-year-old, born female, “socially transition” to a male name and “they/them” pronouns without their knowledge or consent, a practice they argue violates their constitutional rights.
The Littlejohns’ lawsuit stems from the 2020-21 school year when their child, identified in court documents as A.G., expressed to a school counselor a desire to be called by a male name and use they/them pronouns.
