The Army on Monday, Sept. 8 identified a soldier killed on rifle range at Fort Leonard Wood military base in the Missouri Ozarks late last week.

Private Andrey Okunev, an 18-year-old National Guard Soldier from California, was pronounced dead on Friday, Sept. 5 after a 10:30 a.m. local time shooting at the Army training installation .

Officials have not said how Okunev died, but according to a press release from Fort Leonard Wood, the soldier was assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 48th Infantry Regiment.

The training facility in the city of St. Robert in Pulaski County is about 70 miles south of Jefferson City.
