AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine election officials have denied another request from federal officials asking for personally identifying information for more than 1 million Mainers.

This is the second request of its kind in recent months.

The U.S. Department of Justice is demanding the state turn over voter information of all Maine citizens, including sensitive and protected personally identifying information, or PII. These records include but are not limited to the following information:

Driver's license numbers

Partial social security numbers

Full dates of birth

The Maine Secretary of State's Office also said the latest request includes a new demand for voter registration applications submitted from Dec. 1, 2023, through July 1, 2025.
