MADISON (WKOW) -- The City of Madison celebrated the completion of the PFAS system and recommissioning of Well 15 on Monday.
The well had been shut down in 2019 due to PFAS contamination.
Madison Water Utility breaks ground on drinking water cleanup project
The year-long project will see ceilings raised and floors lowered in the drinking water well located at 3900 East Washington Avenue to install a pair of tanks that will filter PFAS out of ground water pumped from the ground and into the city’s pipes.
PFAS are used in many products, like nonstick cookware and some firefighting foams. They can lead to health issues like increased cholesterol and decreased immune response when consumed at high levels.
