Poundland is preparing to shut 16 additional shops in the coming weeks, just weeks after it shuttered 11 stores on August 31. The budget retailer is accelerating a sweeping refocus of its estate alongside a major digital transformation: from September 16, 2025, Poundland will halt online sales and transform Poundland.co.uk into a browse-only site whilst it focuses investment in physical stores.

The pullback is occurring during a challenging period for the retail sector. According to the Centre for Retail Research, UK retail collapses in 2025 (to April) had already impacted 283 shops and 3,026 workers across nine failed businesses, following a devastating 2024 that struck 7,537 stores and 55,914 jobs.
