Veteran Voices of Canada's Flags of Remembrance ceremony returns for its 11th year on Saturday.

Each year, 128 flags are unfurled near Sylvan Lake to pay tribute to military veterans and first responders. Each flag represents 1,000 Canadian military members and RCMP officers and missing-in-action service personnel lost in service since the Boer War.

Veterans Voices founder Al Cameron said the ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. with a massed pipe band and the national anthem sung by Red Deer's Randi Boulton. The ceremony takes place at Range Road 12 and Highway 11 just east of Sylvan Lake and the flags will stretch about a kilometre down the highway.

At noon, veterans on horseback will ride the flag line unfurling each in turn.
