CLARE — A minivan crashed through a wall at the Doherty Hotel on Monday morning, but no one inside the building was injured.

Authorities said a 63-year-old Farwell man drove the vehicle into the hotel around 9 a.m. after leaving the municipal parking lot behind Isabella Bank and crossing Fifth Street. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Hotel officials said the area where the crash occurred held firm despite the damage.

“As far as the structure, it’s in a perfect area … the brick just came complete out square,“ Owner Dean Doherty said. ”I don’t think there’s any other structural issues for the hotel,” an official said.

The hotel’s restaurant and lodging services remain unaffected. The cause of the crash is unknown, and the incident is under investigation.
