HOLYOKE — A group of Holyoke residents and advocacy organizations will gather outside City Hall on Tuesday evening to protest a City Council proposal they say threatens protections for immigrants who live locally.

“I want everyone in Holyoke to know that some on City Council are actively betraying 60% of our city’s population,” organizer Claire McGale said in a statement announcing the demonstration Monday. “We will show up in force at City Hall to demand that the City Council end any efforts to establish cooperation with ICE.”

The rally, called Holyoke Against ICE – Holyoke Contra ICE Demonstration, is scheduled for Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the High Street entrance of City Hall.
