LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
A group of public education advocates is calling on the state legislature to invest more money into Kentucky public schools.
Protect Our Schools KY, a statewide coalition of educators, administrators, parents, and students, is urging lawmakers to direct $718 million in new funding to Kentucky’s public schools during the 2026 General Assembly budget session.
Since 2008, the group says state education funding has declined by 24 percent when adjusted for inflation, cutting jobs, increasing class sizes, and more.
They say this money will be the first step in restoring needed resources.
"Kentucky's kids can't wait," said Maddie Shepard, president of Jefferson County Teachers Association. " What we fund is what we value. Let's show we value our kids. The time is now."
