Teachers in Pontiac are unhappy with the progress in securing a new contract and their frustration with the process is beginning to show.

Last year the Pontiac Education Association (PEA), the union representing the 230 teachers in the district, started the school year without a contract knowing the school district and the union were negotiating in good faith.

They reached an agreement in February 2025 which only covered the remainder of the school year and began working on a new contract on July 1.

This time, the union is unhappy with the progress being made and has let their frustration be known.

Teachers and paraprofessionals walked out of a convocation at Kensington Church on Aug. 28 carrying signs reading “protect Pontiac schools”.
