Two Huntsville police officers face DUI charges in separate weekend incidents.

On Sunday, Sept. 7, off-duty officer George Wheeler III was in a car crash on Tulip Tree Lane in New Market.

Responding officers noticed signs of impairment and initiated a DUI investigation at approximately 11:30 p.m. Wheeler was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Less than 24 hours earlier, Huntsville Police Officer Scott Hartman was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after a two-car crash in downtown Huntsville, at Church Street and Wheeler Avenue.

The other driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Both officers are under administrative duty pending an internal investigation.
