ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

The annual Lobo Cancer Challenge this month raises funds for the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only comprehensive cancer center in New Mexico, with participants choosing where their fundraising dollars go.

Inside the lab at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, cancer research is actively underway. Dr. Jennifer Gillette, associate director for the Cancer Research Training and Education Program, is excited about the work being done. "We expose to the plethora of what's offered here at our Health Sciences Center," she said.

The program aims to develop the workforce dedicated to finding cures for cancer, offering educational opportunities from middle school through to the faculty level. "We develop and run programs that start at the K-12 age,
