A former schoolhouse in rural Stevensville will not be given a heritage designation after the majority of town council decided it was unnecessary.
Classifying the building at 2782 Eagle St., a heritage building was shot down during Monday’s council-in-committee meeting following a lengthy discussion.
Local politicians later voted separately in favour of designating another property, the town-owned Fort Erie Railway Museum, a heritage site.
A staff report on the Eagle Street residence said the property’s owners were not in favour of the designation, mostly because of perceived maintenance costs and limitations that could be imposed on future alterations or modifications to the property.
Ward 6 Coun. Ann-Marie Noyes said she was against the designation because the property is nothing out
