Walnut junior quarterback Nohlen Simons has eased some anxiety for coach Eric Peralta, and now all the pieces are falling into place.

Simons is averaging 194 yards with six touchdowns, and has the Mustangs off to a 3-0 start following last week’s 37-12 victory over Sonora. Simons led the way, throwing for 198 yards and three touchdowns.

Last season, Nathan Simons, who is Nohlen Simons’ older brother, and Keneh Ejike, shared time at quarterback.

But Nohlen Simons, who played on the JV team last year, made an impression with Peralta over the spring and summer. Nohlen Simons’ move to quarterback allows Nathan Simons and Ejike, who are two of their best athletes, to have major impacts at receiver and in the secondary.
