Mayor Daniel Biss claims measure is to protect residents, as federal immigration enforcement efforts are anticipated.
In a move of open defiance against potential federal immigration enforcement, Mayor Daniel Biss of Evanston, Illinois, announced on Monday that his city has deactivated certain public safety tools, including license-plate cameras.

The mayor’s statement follows a series of public comments from President Donald Trump hinting at stepped-up federal enforcement.
