TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida drivers who have Progressive Insurance may soon receive a check from the car insurance company due to a state law.
NBC affiliate WBBH reported that Progressive has exceeded the profit limit set by state law for auto insurance companies over the past three years.
Doug Nellans from The Insurancenter in Fort Myers told the news station that Progressive must issue checks or credits to its customers since it exceeded the limit.
"There are regulatory safeguards in place to prevent excessive profits," Nellas said. "The average car insurance policy is about $1500 per year, so you're talking about $150-$200, which is a nice starting point to a path to relief."
Nellans said that other insurers are "encouraged and somewhat mandated" to follow Progressive's lead.
