French president Emmanuel Macron appointed his minister of Armed forces Sébastien Lecornu to serve as the next prime minister, the Elysée announced on Tuesday evening.

Lecornu has been at the helm of the defence ministry since May 2022, surviving several government changes in the past years that have seen the country going through a long political crisis.

Lecornu originally sat on the right side of the political spectrum, before joining Macron’s movement. (cp)
