LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - The new mayor of London is formally asking Kentucky State Police for answers in the deadly officer-involved shooting of Doug Harless.

In a letter [read below] dated Sept. 8, Mayor Tracie Handley requested a status update from KSP Commissioner Phillip Burnett.

Harless, 63, was shot and killed in his home by London police during an incident on Dec. 23, 2024. Nearly nine months later, Mayor Handley says there have been no public updates on the investigation.

“The lack of any kind of update continues to foster unrest within the community,” she wrote.

Mayor Handley says the shooting has shaken community trust, with some residents afraid to call police and others turning to social media for answers.
