Deputies charge Summerville man in May Charleston County killing

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - Charleston County detectives have made an arrest in the shooting that left a man dead in May.

Javion Armonte Mitchell, 22, is charged with murder, according to court documents.

Deputies responded to the 7700 block of Linsley Drive near North Charleston just after 3 p.m. on May 19 where someone reported an unconscious person, sheriff’s spokesperson Lexi Douglas said. When deputies arrived, they discovered the man had a gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 19-year-old Cassius Grays.

Mitchell as booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center on Monday afternoon and remained in custody as of Tuesday.
