CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Department of Transportation (DOT) and Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) are mourning the death of one of their own after a car accident claimed the life of DMV employee Marvin Smith Jr. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Smith worked as a Dealer Inspector at the DMV and was recognized by colleagues for his professionalism, compassion, and commitment to serving the public.

Officials said his contributions left a lasting impact on both coworkers and the community.

“We are heartbroken to hear of the loss of one of our own,” said Everett Frazier, Commissioner of the DMV.
