CLAYTON — A Ferguson man this weekend was charged after a toddler found his loaded gun in a bed and shot himself.

Travis Simms, 26, was charged Saturday with first-degree endangerment of a child, according to court records.

A 3-year-old boy found Simms' loaded 9mm handgun in Simms' bed on Saturday, charging documents say.

The child shot himself in the leg while his parents were "focused on their phones," an officer wrote.

Simms told police he owned the gun, according to charging documents.

Simms posted a $500 cash bond shortly after he was arrested, according to records.
