An Everett man turned a trip to Market Basket into $1 million when he bought a winning Powerball ticket during the drawing that featured a $1.2 billion jackpot.
Paula Da Costa won the prize during the multi-state game’s Monday, Sept. 1 drawing, where one of the largest jackpots in Powerball history was up for grabs. Da Costa didn’t win the top prize, but walked away with $1 million.
The ticket Da Costa bought at the Market Basket in Revere matched the first five numbers selected during the drawing. The Everett man claimed his prize on Monday at the Massachusetts State Lottery ’s Dorchester headquarters.
Da Costa told lottery officials he intends to invest and save the winnings. The Market Basket store receives a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
