ROWLETT, Texas — Editor's note: The video published above is a WFAA report about the community response in support of a kitten who was shot in the face with a dart.

A 45-year-old North Texas man accused of shooting a kitten in the face with a dart was arrested Tuesday, according to officials.

Police arrested Jacob Cushingham for cruelty to non-livestock animal, which is a third-degree felony.

Animal services officers had been working to capture the kitten named Shadow since mid-August.

The City of Rowlett Animal Services said that at times, Shadow disappeared for several days, further complicating rescue efforts.
