SPANISH LAKE — “Did you sell the winning ticket?” a customer asked Chris Sternfels during the Tuesday lunch rush at the QuikTrip here.

Sternfels, the store manager, laughed and said he didn’t know. But someone — who has remained anonymous — bought a Powerball ticket worth $893.5 million at the QuikTrip at 12110 Lusher Road, the Missouri Lottery announced this week.

"I hope it’s someone who we see every day (and) their life has just completely changed,” Sternfels said. The store will receive a prize of $50,000 for selling the winning ticket.

“No one in Missouri ever wins," he said. "It’s very, very rare. It’s unbelievable.”
