Red Deerians gathered at City Hall Park to honour firefighters who died in the line of duty.

Despite some recent conflict between the City of Red Deer and the local firefighters union, the two sides stood side by side at City Hall Park to recognize Firefighters’ National Memorial Day. Local firefighters lined the steps of City Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 9, as the names of Canadian firefighters who have died over the past year were read aloud during the annual memorial.

"We all have to put our differences aside and take the time to recognize those who have made the ultimate sacrifice," said Fire Chief Ken McMullen.
