Officials on Monday released video footage that shows the moments before a stabbing outside downtown Portland’s Central Library late last month after a local political leader raised questions about the information that had been released about the attack.
Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson had urged District Attorney Nathan Vasquez to release footage of the incident, noting there was a “serious discrepancy” between what she saw in the video, reports from library and security staff, and how police portrayed the incident. She said releasing the footage was critical to “combat misinformation.”
County officials released the footage after Vasquez publicly told her to use her authority to do so, adding he would not litigate criminal cases outside of court.
