BROOKFIELD, Wis. (WFRV) - A 41-year-old Wisconsin man was indicted in August for alleged money laundering of multiple elderly victims across several states, including a victim in Sheboygan.
Richard G. Frohling, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, announced that Ankurkumar Patel of Brookfield faces one count of money laundering conspiracy and one count of substantive money laundering.
According to the release, Patel conspired to launder over $1 million from elderly victims who were preyed upon through a 'Phantom Hacker Scam,' which generally targets elderly victims.
