That nasty Bo Bichette collision at home plate on Saturday at Yankee Stadium apparently was a lot worse than the Blue Jays initially let on.

The team announced on Tuesday that Bichette has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left knee sprain.

It’s the last thing the Jays needed to hear entering a critical three-game series against the Houston Astros as the playoff race has begun in earnest with 19 games remaining in the regular season.

The Jays enter the six-game home stand with a lead in the American League East that has shrunk to just two games over the Yankees, who took two of three games from their division rivals on the weekend in New York.
