A woman shot to death in Hueytown is being remembered as a loving soul who never met a stranger.
Rocio Contreras Vega, 52, was killed Thursday at her home on Robins Street.
Her husband, 48-year-old Miguel Angel Torres-Rodriquez, 48, was taken into custody Friday morning in Mississippi and extradited to Alabama on Monday on a murder charge.
“She had such a kind spirit and loved her family wholeheartedly,” her daughter, Julie Perea, said in a GoFundMe. “She lit up every room she walked in.”
Hueytown police received a 911 call shortly after 5:30 p.m. Thursday reporting a woman had been shot at a home in the 1700 block of Robins Street.
Hueytown Police Chief Mike Yarbrough said they arrived to find Vega unresponsive at the residence. She was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:54 p.m.
