Purdue University Northwest is declining to disclose how much famed astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson will be paid for his Sinai Forum talk in December, claiming it is a “trade secret.”

It provided the reason for redacting his pay and expenses in response to a public records request for Sinai Forum contracts from the Post-Tribune. The university disclosed the pay for all other speakers.

The Post-Tribune has filed a formal complaint with Indiana’s Public Access Counselor. Purdue Northwest did not respond by deadline to a request for comment.

His 90-minute program, “Adventures in Science Literacy,” is set for 4 p.m. Dec. 7 at the 1,200-seat Stardust Event Center in the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City.
