Korean Air has been flying to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport for over 30 years, connecting its base at Seoul's Incheon International Airport with the fortress hub of its long-time partner, Delta Air Lines . In that time, the Boeing 747 has been the backbone of Korean Air's nonstop route, initially with 747-400s, and more recently with its fleet of 747-8s.
But August 31 of this year marked the last 747 flight by Korean Air to Atlanta, as the route is now flown by its 777-300ERs. So, why is the airline flying a single return flight to Atlanta this week using a Boeing 747-8 ? The answer is that it's a special repatriation flight for Korean nationals that have been detained in Georgia.
