A Walker County school bus crashed Tuesday morning on Cook Road in LaFayette, leaving five students hospitalized and several others injured, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

A GSP spokesperson said the bus driver veered off the road at a curve and struck a tree. The impact caused extensive damage, leaving students unable to exit through the bus door.

There were 37 students on board. Ten were hurt, including five who were taken to a hospital.

Krista Richardson lives in the area where the incident happened and said her children were waiting for the bus at the time of the crash.
