Bloomfield Township may appoint a citizens’ advisory committee to look at options for deer population management.
The township is the latest Oakland County community to consider what action to take as residents complain about destroyed landscaping; the potential spread of Lyme disease, which is carried by ticks that live on deer; and increasing vehicle-deer crashes.
City councils in Southfield, Farmington Hills and Farmington voted earlier this year to authorize culls this winter to reduce the deer population. Culls are organized hunts by professional sharpshooters, usually on public lands such as large parks.
