A woman has been arrested for first-degree murder nearly 33 years after police found a baby at the Iowa City landfill.

Police discovered the baby, then known as Baby John Doe, at the landfill on Dec. 21, 1992.

The initial autopsy revealed that Doe was a "full-term, well-developed white male" child. The baby had suffered "extensive blunt force injuries" after death. A cause of death was never declared.

Police said the baby came from trash cans that were picked up by a garbage truck near 712 5th Street in Coralville, which were emptied at the landfill. Investigators could not identify the child's mother or father at the time.
