CARTHAGE, New York (WWNY) - It was once a hub of activity. Now it’s condemned and targeted for demolition.
“It is going to be a real shame because that was a beautiful, beautiful building down there,” said historian Lynn Thornton.
The old Carthage railroad depot is set for demolition after it was deemed unsafe by Jefferson County.
Carthage Village Attorney Ian Gilbert says the building was starting to pose a danger as debris was falling into the street.
“When a building becomes so unsafe that it’s unusable and then it presents a hazard to the public. At that point, the village needs to take action,” he said.
Cory Cummings lives next to the depot, and although he didn’t want to be interviewed on camera, he says he’d be glad if it’s gone as the building is an eyesore and attraction for
