Wayne State University is continuing to advance its reach into health sciences research with a Tuesday afternoon groundbreaking on the site of its upcoming multimillion-dollar Health Sciences Research Building.

"This $200 million investment will transform how we advance health and research education right from the heart of Midtown," university President Kimberly Espy said at the event. "The Health Sciences Research Building will be a hub of innovation and collaboration, where researchers, clinicians and students and community partners address our most pressing health challenges."

The site, located at 545 E. Canfield St., is yet another way the university is investing in the growth of Midtown and the larger city of Detroit, Mayor Mike Duggan said.
