ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department reports an officer conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Trailblazer for speeding around 12:25 a.m., Tuesday in the parking lot of Handy Spot Liquor at 105 W. Hively Ave.

During the stop, the officer noticed signs of possible impairment and asked for driver’s ID.

The driver ignored the officer's commands before driving away south on Prairie Street at a high rate of speed.

A pursuit ensued, with the Trailblazer heading west on C.R. 20.

During the pursuit, police say the suspect vehicle disregarded several red lights while continuing to speed. The suspect vehicle then turned north onto Ash Road, before turning west along the tracks, at which point the officer lost sight of the vehicle.

Officers later located the unoccupied vehicle
